Marine One Model Helicopter

These Model Aircraft are 16 inches in length and finely handcrafted, and hand painted by our artists – to scale and museum quality. The VH-3D is a twin engine, all-weather helicopter flown by Marine Helicopter Squadron One (HMX-1) and supports the executive transport mission for the President of the United States.

The VH-3D model aircraft which forms the backbone for normal Presidential lifts fits the definition of an “aging” aircraft (i.e. an aircraft for which no production line currently exists). However, recurring in-depth evaluations of the condition and maintenance procedures on the VH-3D fleet in current usage has resulted in the establishment of a service life of 14,000 flight hours based on Service Life Assessment/Extension Programs (SLAP/SLEP) carried out on the VH-3D air frames. Using current utilization data, these aircraft will be able to remain in service until approximately 2014.

Naval Rotary Wing Aircraft Test Squadron’s (NRWATS) Executive Transport Test Team is responsible for conducting developmental flight test in support of Marine Helicopter Squadron One (HMX-1) requirements. HMX-1 functions as the Marine Corps’ operational test and evaluation unit and also provides Presidential/VIP transportation. Most Executive Transport flight test involves developmental software flight test in the NRWATS NVH-3D helicopter. This specially configured H-3 is capable of supporting software flight test in support of most of the systems installed on HMX-1 aircraft.

AH-64D Longbow Apache

These Model Aircraft are finely handcrafted, and hand painted by our artists – to scale and museum quality. 16 inches in length with custom models available. The model includes rotating props. The Apache is a four-blade, twin-engine attack helicopter with reverse-tricycle landing gear arrangement, and tandem cockpit for a crew of two.

As January 2010, the US had 741 Apaches still in service.

The AH-64D Longbow Apache was developed as Model 77 by Hughes Helicopters for the United States Army’s Advanced Attack Helicopter program to replace the AH-1 Cobra. First flown on 30 September 1975, the AH-64 features a nose-mounted sensor suite for target acquisition and night vision systems. The Apache is armed with a 30-millimeter (1.2 in) M230 Chain Gun carried between the main landing gear, under the aircraft’s forward fuselage. The AH-64 also carries a mixture of AGM-114 Hellfire and Hydra 70 rocket pods on four hardpoints mounted on stub-wing pylons. The AH-64 also features double- and triple-redundant aircraft systems to improve survivability for the aircraft and crew in combat, as well as improved crash survivability for the pilots.

AH-1 Suprecobra Helicopter

These Model Planes are finely handcrafted, and hand painted by our artists – to scale and museum quality. The AH-1W Super Cobra is the US Marines’ attack helicopter.

The AH-1W Super Cobra is a two-place, twin-engine, day/night marginal weater Marine Corps attack helicopter that provides en route escort for assault helicopters and their embarked forces. It had been the only western attack helicopter with a proven air-to-air and anti-radar missile capability. The primary mission of the AH-1W aircraft is as an armed tactical helicopter capable of close air support, low altitude and high speed flight, target search and acquisition, reconnaissance by fire, multiple weapons fire support, troop helicopter support, and point target attack of threatening armor. The AH-1W provides fire support and fire support coordination to the landing force during amphibious assaults and subsequent operations ashore.

The AH-1W Super Cobra provides full night-fighting capability with the AN/AWS-1(V) Night Targeting System (NTS)The AN/AWS-1(V)1 NTS further enhanced the AH-1W’s warfighting capability by adding FLIR sensor, CCD TV sensor, Laser Designator/Rangefinder, Automatic Target Tracking and FLIR, and CCD TV video recording.

Agusta A-129 CBT Mangusta

These Model Planes are 16 inches in length and finely handcrafted, and hand painted by our artists – to scale and museum quality.  The Agusta A129CBT Mangusta is an attack helicopter originally designed and produced by Agusta in Italy. It was the first attack helicopter to be designed and produced wholly in Western Europe.

The A129 was developed to provide an anti-tank attack helicopter for the Italian Army. Design of the A129 began in 1978. The first of five A129 prototypes was first flown on 15 September 1983, and the fifth prototype first flew in March 1986.

In 1986, the governments of Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and the United Kingdom signed a memorandum of understanding to investigate an improved version of the A129, called the Joint European Helicopter Tonal.

LAPD Eurocopter

These Model Airplanes are finely handcrafted, and hand painted by our artists – to scale and museum quality. 16 inches in length with custom models available.

Today the Air Support Division operates 12 Eurocopter AS-350B2.

The city of Los Angeles briefly flew a fleet of Bell 407s in the late 1990s as a replacement for the AS-350B1s. However, in 2000 the LAPD started replacing the 407s with more powerful AS-350B2s. Two of the 407s were sold to the General Services Department which uses the helicopters on flights for the Department of Water and Power.

(“Tonal” was derived from the name of an Aztec deity.) The Tonal was to have more powerful engines, a new rotor system, retractable landing gear, improved sensors and more powerful armament. However, the project collapsed in 1990 when Britain and the Netherlands decided to obtain the Ah-64 Apache instead. Spain has since acquired the European Tiger. An export version, the A129 International (A129I), is a lower-cost helicopter with added firepower and upgraded avionics. In September 2007, the A129I was redesignated the AW129.

Using current utilization data, these aircraft will be able to remain in service until approximately 2014.

On 14 October 1990 a VH-3D helicopter crashed in the vicinity of Chicago as the result of a plastic snow fence which had been positioned for crowd control being blown free of its supports and wrapping around the tail rotor during landing transition. The tail pylon broke off and the aircraft rolled onto its side. The mishap was caused by the squadron’s White House Liaison Officer (WHLO) having failed to insist that the fence be removed after having recognized the possible hazard to aircraft posed by it. Three crew members and one passenger received minor injuries, and two passengers were uninjured. No post-mishap fire occurred, and the aircraft was removed and ultimately refurbished. Because of the nature of the mishap (aircraft rolled onto its left side), the normal cabin egress was precluded, and the metal damage to cabin emergency escape hatches necessitated egress through the pilot’s escape window for all.

The AH-1W has significantly improved power available in high altitude, hot environment, and single engine performance. The Super Cobra is armed with a 20mm turret gun, and is qualified to carry TOW, HELLFIRE, Sidewinder, Sidearm missiles, and 5 inch or 2.75 inch rockets. The HELLFIRE Missile System increased ordnance delivery and firepower capabilities.
